Stefanos Ntouskos, born in 1997, is a Gold Olympian in Men’s Rowing
Stefanos Douskos was born on March 29, 1997 in Ioannina. He started rowing at the age of 15 at the Ioannina Nautical Club and has already managed to net 6 medals at the World, European Championships and the Mediterranean Games.
In Japan it was his 2nd participation in the Olympic Games. In his Olympic debut at the age of 19 in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Stefanos Ntouskos became an Olympian for the first time, when he finished 6th in men’s lightweight coxless four crew with Spyros Giannaros, Giannis Petrou and Panagiotis Magdanis. Rio was also the first time in the history of Greek rowing that a Greek crew participated in the men’s lightweight coxless four crew, which secured its participation as late as on July 26, 2016, when the Russian four crew was expelled due to the doping scandal.
A few days after the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, on August 26, 2016, Stefanos Ntouskos won the silver medal in the coxless doubles together with Giannis Petrou at the Men/Women World Championship U23, Non-Olympic Games.
In 2018, he won two medals, one at the European Championships in Brest, Belarus and another one at the Mediterranean Games. That is to say, Stefanos Ntouskos together with Christos Stergiakas won the gold medal in the double skiff at the European U23 Rowing Championship. Then, at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, once again with fellow athlete Christos Stergiakas, Stefanos Ntouskos won the gold medal in the double sculls.
In 2019, the rower from Ioannina won the silver medal at the Sarasota U23 World Championship in the single sculls.
In 2020, Stefanos Douskos was ranked 5th in the European Championship, while he did not participate in the World Championship, as it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
His qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics was locked only after winning the gold medal in the skiff at the European Pre-Olympic Regatta in Varese, on April 8, 2021.
At the Tokyo Olympics, in the early hours of July 30, 2021, Stefanos Ntouskos won the Gold Medal, finishing 1st in the single skiff with a record time of 6: 40.45.
The first gold for the Greek rowing team at the Olympic Games, but also the first gold for the Greek Olympic Team at the Tokyo Olympics.
