APOEL was founded on November 8, 1926 and is the most successful football club in Cyprus. The seat of the football team is the New GSP. in Nicosia. Apoel’s colors are blue and yellow. The blue color stands for the Greek flag, while the yellow stands for the Byzantine flag.

APOEL has won 28 National championships, 21 Cups and 14 Super Cups, being the winngest team in Cypriot football. Apoel has participated uninterruptedly in the national championships and cups, with only exception the years 1973-1974 when the club participated in the pan-Hellenic Greek Championship. APOEL has taken part 79 times in the Cypriot First Division, finishing first in the relevant ranking.

APOEL has been participating in the European football competitions since 1963-64. His most important achievement is his participation in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League in the 2011-12 season, which suggests the most important achievement of Cypriot football so far. In total, APOEL has participated four times in the groups of the Champions League and three times in the groups of the Europa League.
