Alkis was born on August 21, 1998 in Athens

After several years of competing at a young age in all freestyle swimming events, he decided that it was time for the big move and thus, Alkis switched to open water swimming.

The greatest moment in his career so far is his participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games, where he finished 5th with a time of 1:49:29 in the 10 km open water race. He then took 8th place at the 2022 European Championships.

Alkis has been with the Stoiximan team since August 2021.

Alkis Kynigakis twice finished 6th at the 10km Open Water World Championships and the 5km Open Water World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
