Spyros Gianniotis

Spyridon “Spyros” Gianniotis is one of the world’s leading athletes in marathon swimming. With a career spanning more than 20 years and participation in five Olympic Games (2000–2016), his defining moment came at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where he won the silver medal in the 10km marathon swim.

He is a two-time World Champion in the 10km event (Shanghai 2011, Barcelona 2013), a multiple medalist at World and European Championships, and was named World Marathon Swimming Athlete of the Year in 2011. He was repeatedly honored as Greece’s Athlete of the Year (2011–2013) and, in 2020, was inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.

After retiring from competition, he continues to serve the sport in leadership roles, as a Technical Advisor to the Hellenic Swimming Federation and Vice Chair of the European Aquatics Technical Open Water Swimming Committee, actively contributing to the growth and development of marathon swimming at both national and European level.
