Thodoris Papaloukas is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Greek\u2014and European\u2014basketball history. He was born in Athens on May 8, 1977, and built an exceptional career as a playmaker known for his vision, leadership, and ability to elevate every team he played for.<\/span><\/p>\n He began his career at a young age with <\/span>Ethnikos Ellinoross\u014dn<\/b>, then played for <\/span>Ampelokipoi (1995\u20131997)<\/b> and <\/span>Dafni (1997\u20131999)<\/b>. In 1999 he joined <\/span>Panionios<\/b>, and in 2001 he moved to <\/span>Olympiacos<\/b>. In 2002 he signed with <\/span>CSKA Moscow<\/b>, where he played until the summer of 2008, before returning to Olympiacos. During the <\/span>2011\u20132012<\/b> season he played for <\/span>Maccabi Tel Aviv<\/b>, and in December 2012 he returned to CSKA Moscow, finishing his career at the end of that season.<\/span><\/p>\n Papaloukas was also a key figure for the <\/span>Greek National Team<\/b> during one of its most successful eras. He won <\/span>gold at EuroBasket 2005<\/b> and was named to the <\/span>All-Tournament Team<\/b>. In 2006, he helped Greece win <\/span>silver at the FIBA World Cup (Japan)<\/b> and again earned a place on the tournament\u2019s <\/span>All-Tournament Team<\/b>. He also helped Greece to <\/span>4th place at EuroBasket 2007<\/b> and <\/span>5th place at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n He holds the title of <\/span>EuroLeague Legend<\/b>\u2014alongside other icons of the sport\u2014and is the <\/span>only Greek player<\/b> to have been named <\/span>FIBA Europe Player of the Year (2007)<\/b>.
